Sunday Open Thread

Happy Sunday! I am going to be working for most of the day. What are you up to today?

Responses

  1. Already gotten a chapter of my book written, made a batch of chocolate covered peppermint marshmallows and played a round of Army of Two with my insomniac 9 year old son.
hopefully I’ll get to sleep soon!

    • Hey there!
I’m the curious type, and can’t figure out whether I ‘know’ you, or not. If you were posting at the old MT, I’d love to know who you are. And if not, we’re always interested in meeting new posters. Could you give us a brief intro?

      • I’m sorry, yes I’m a new poster but reader for a while. I’m a 43 yo mom with three homeschooled boye 9 and 12. I’m about halfway finished with my sutobiography and work as an advocate for runaway girls.

        • Nice to meet you — welcome!

          • Yes, welcome! Thanks SwissClogs for helping clear this up, I was wondering the same thing!

        • Welcome, and nice to ‘meet’ you. Love your handle! I wish I were 🙂

  2. For years, I obsessed over the fact that my kids wouldn’t dress appropriately for church (as I defined “appropriate”). Since DH got sick, that’s been one of the things I just didn’t have the energy to worry about, so we went in jeans or sport pants or whatever- I figured God wouldn’t care, even if the old ladies in the back did.

This morning, after almost 18 months of “wear whatever you want,” H came down in a shirt and tie. Even though the tie is too short and the shirt is wrinkled, he’s the handsomest thing I’ve ever seen. He asked if I would go get him a sport coat this afternoon.

I’m actually a little teary over the whole thing. I’m dressed in jeans and I haven’t showered, but I can’t wait to get to church to show him off.

    • Awwww !

I battled withy mom for 18 years about having to dress nicely for church (or even go). That’s one battle I WILL not fight with my kids. They’re too young to care now, but when they get older I’m not going to care how they dress. As long as its not revealing or too filthy.

Saw H’s pic on fb this morning. He looks so cute!

      • I just want to say that your typo led to me thinking to myself, “withy mom? i don’t remember an MTer by that name” before I realized you were saying with my mom. Ha! I guess I skipped over the 18 yrs part and seriously thought you and withy mom were having it out over this issue on MT before my time! Must get more sleep.

    • It’s funny…Australians don’t dress up for church. At all. Jeans and flipflops are common. So much so that if I dress up and dress the kids up, we may as well be wearing signs that say “American!!!!”.

I think your son’s flip flop might be a good parenting lesson for all of us. 🙂

      • 12 hours later and I’ve decided that the roller coaster that is pre-adolescence is going to kill me. He was adorable this morning, then I discovered 10 overdue library books under his bed, plus something that may have once been a sandwich but now looks more like a dead rat.

  3. I’m up in Sonoma with girlfriends for the weekend, but it poured all day yesterday. So much for outdoor activities. We got pedis and had an outstanding dinner. Maybe it will be drier today, but fun anyway!

  4. I just want to say that every time I mistakenly go to the old MT site and see “stop! don’t post here!” I really really want to post there. And it makes me wonder…is it bad for me to post there because no one will see it, because we’re over here? Or if I post there will it wreck something? Will all baker baker DH’s work be ruined? Will something blow up? The rebel in me wants to do it, kinda like I want to drop a penny off the Empire State Building just to see what would happen.

    • Tee hee. We’re a bit alike, you and I….

      • Which could explain our similar offspring…

    • Oh, thank the Universe I’m not the only one.

    • Yes, me too.

  5. I’m guessing you don’t really want an answer, but I’ll give you my best guess anyway. Since this is only temporary and the plan is to merge the posts from here with those on the old site after the move, I guess that posts there may be lost in the transfer (as only stuff from here will be moved for this period). Having us play in both places would presumably mean a lot more work for BB’s DH when he merges the sites.

    I so see where you’re coming from though – it’s tempting 🙂

    • Have you been to Frankfurt airport lately? There’s a giant red button that says “Don’t press!”. It cracks me up to sit there and watch people’s reactions to it. And especially to watch mothers freak out when their children run up to it.

Our whole family pressed it. Of course. I won’t spoil it for you.

      • I haven’t, but we will go through there on our trip to SEA in summer. You’ve got me very curious now 🙂 And good to know it’s safe for kids to press – that will save me from freaking out when my kids take a run for it

    • Oops, this was meant to be a reply to sheri’s message above

      • No worries, I cracked your sneaky code anyway. : )
